Food Fun Nutrition Cards Fact Sheet

1. Each deck contains 8 ready-to-play games for elementary/middle school students.

4. Games can be learned and played in 15 minutes and are easy to incorporate into math, reading and language development activities.

Children have fun learning nutrition/exercise facts and report eating healthier after using the card games.

This Fall 2006, over 5000 children in the Santa Barbara Elementary School District played the nutrition card games in their classrooms. After using the cards four times, 91% of the students who completed surveys reported making healthy changes as a result of playing with the cards. Their top responses in order were:

  1. Eating more fruits and/or vegetables

  2. Drinking milk/water instead of soda/sweet drinks

  3. Eating less junk food

  4. Doing more exercise

  5. Eating more balanced meals w/ a protein, fruit, vegetable and grain
85% eat more fruits and vegetables
80% eat a healthier lunch
67% eat less junk food
48% talked to their parents about something they learned from the cards
97% thought playing cards was a fun way to learn
